Six-year-old Kimkim’s journey has been one of uncertainty and resilience. What began in early 2023 as occasional crossed eyes and a yellowish reflection quickly raised concerns for his parents, Noor and his wife, in Yogyakarta. An ophthalmologist eventually suggested retinoblastoma, a rare childhood eye cancer, with removal of the eye as the primary option—news that devastated the family.

Refusing to give up, they searched for alternatives and learned that the National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore offered advanced treatment. For almost a year, Kimkim remained active despite sensitivity to light, but by mid-2024 his condition worsened. Severe pain, weakness, and swelling followed, forcing the family to urgently seek further help.

Through another parent’s experience, they decided to bring Kimkim to NUH Singapore. There, doctors confirmed Stage 3B retinoblastoma. Though the diagnosis was heartbreaking, it provided a clear treatment path, giving the family renewed determination to act quickly.

The greatest challenge now lies in the financial burden. Kimkim’s parents, both lecturers with modest incomes, are struggling to meet the estimated S$63,000 in initial treatment costs. Despite this, they remain committed to securing the best care possible for their youngest child.

For the family, this journey is defined by hope, perseverance, and a belief that advanced treatment abroad can give Kimkim a chance at a healthier future. Their story highlights not only the challenges of confronting a rare illness but also the strength of parental love in the face of hardship.
